The International Council of Museums ICOM (http://www.icom.museum) was established at UNESCO in 1946 to unite the museums of the world.

ICOM membership has increased from 800 to 15.500 within the past two decades, indicating the popularity of the organisation and the activity of museums in the development of global cooperation. ICOM launched innovative reforms in the 1990’s to make the organisation into a more mobile and better functioning structure.
