Hiiumaa Museum was founded at Kassari in the year 1967. In 1998 the museum centre was established in the Long House, which from the 1830s was the dwelling house of the Ungern-Sternbergs – directors and owners of Kärdla Broadcloth Factory. The building houses the museum’s administration and the permanent exposition of Kärdla; it also hosts temporary exhibitions, concerts and cultural events.
