The Tartu Art Museum was founded in 1940 with the aim to collect and introduce contemporary art, and the museum continues to perform this role also today. The main building of the Tartu Art Museum is situated in Vallikraavi Street, and it houses the majority of the collection giving an overview of 20th-century Estonian art, as well as the administration, research staff and the library. These collections can be visited and introduced by prior arrangement with the chief treasurer and collection keepers.
